“Feathered, winged, two-legged, warm-blooded, egg-laying vertebrates” is the Wikipedian description of birds. Did you know that birds have a digestive and respiratory system uniquely adapted for flight?
Absolutely fascinating creatures, our fair weathered friends have an amazing penchant for adaptation and survival in extreme circumstances. And every year, in the spring, you will see a new crop of chicks enter the world and find their way into the big blue.
Humans have a fascination with our winged friends. From bird feeders to bird cams "Berry Eagle Cam", you have to admit that we are quite enamored with these beautiful “FREE” creatures.
So today, I would like to share about God’s provision and it’s correlation with birds. I use birds as my example for one reason (besides my love for them), “Trust”. These beautiful creatures have absolute faith that their provisions are met day to day.
In Genesis 1:20-21, God said “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky. So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.” (NIV) Can you imagine, The Creator of the Universe watching the birds of the air take flight for the very first time. If I get giddy over just one, I can only imagine how He must have felt to see them find their way. Scripture says that “He saw that it was good.”
God created these beautiful creatures which fly above us in peaceful trust. Short of fighting over food, very rarely do you see a bird stressed over provision.
In Job 12:7-10, we are told: “But ask the animals and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In His Hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”
In HIS HAND is the life of every creature AND the BREATH OF ALL MANKIND!
Ask the birds in the sky and they will tell you . . . Our God is an awesome God!
So how about us, why do we worry over provision in our lives? If the birds of the air trust Him, why can’t we?
In Matthew 6:25-27, Jesus says, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
And that’s the crux of it, isn’t it? When you see a bird, he has purpose. Whether flying toward his destination, building a nest or finding food for her chicks. Birds not only give us proof of His Creation but more importantly they serve to prove that we can trust that He will provide for us as well.
So, the next time you see one of these beautiful creatures, thank your Father, The Creator of the universe who provides for you.
Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me.”
Father, thank YOU for provision. Thank YOU for consistently showing us through Your Creation the beauty of Your Love and Your Grace. You have told us that we are valuable to YOU, please build our Faith as we watch those who have complete trust that Their Creator will provide for them.
Your Loving Daughter
